Louisiana Hemp Testing
(Compliance, Safety & COAs)

Brief intro highlighting ACS Laboratory’s role as a leading hemptesting laboratory in Louisiana.

ACS Laboratory supports Louisiana hemp brands in meeting the state’s strict safety and potency requirements. While the Louisiana Department of Agriculture oversees crop testing, ACS provides accredited compliance testing for consumable hemp products, helping processors and retailers confirm product purity, accurate labeling, and legal THC limits before sale.

Industrial Hemp Plant Testing (Not Available in Louisiana)

Louisiana law requires all pre-harvest hemp testing to be conducted directly by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry (LDAF). ACS Laboratory cannot perform official pre-harvest plant testing in the state. However, it offers plant and soil health and R&D test options.

Consumable Hemp Testing (5-panel test)

Hemp brands and retailers in Louisiana must verify potency & purity for every consumable hemp product sold in the state. ACS Laboratory provides accredited Certificates of Analysis (COAs) to confirm compliance with Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) requirements.

Louisiana Pre-Harvest
Testing for Hemp Plants

Louisiana hemp growers must complete mandatory pre-harvest testing through the Department of Agriculture and Forestry before crop harvesting. State law requires official LDAF inspectors to collect samples from each field and verify that total delta-9 THC levels remain at or below 0.3% on a dry-weight basis. Harvest must occur within 30 days of sampling once the results confirm compliance.

To stay compliant, licensed growers should submit their planting and harvest reports on time, schedule sampling directly with LDAF, and wait for official approval before cutting or transporting plants.

ACS Laboratory does not conduct pre-harvest hemp testing in Louisiana. However, we support the industry by providing finished product compliance testing for hemp processors, brands, and retailers.

Louisiana Compliance Testing
for Hemp Extracts & Inhalables

Louisiana hemp product manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers must test every consumable hemp item before sale to confirm potency, purity, and accurate labeling. ACS Laboratory provides the required 5-panel test for consumables and 4-panel tests for hemp flower, ensuring compliance with evolving LDH standards.

01

Cannabinoid Potency

Matrix: Flower/Plants, Derivative Products, Edibles, and Beverages

ACS Laboratory tests hemp samples for 13 cannabinoids using HPLC-UV per Louisiana’s hemp program requirements to list “all major phytocannabinoid constituents by percentage of dry weight.” It ensures that consumable hemp products and beverages do not exceed 5 milligrams of THC per serving, and that tinctures do not exceed one milligram per milliliter serving. Hemp flower must not exceed 0.3% THC.

02

Residual Solvents

Matrix: Derivative Products, Edibles, and BeveragesFlower & Plants, Derivative Products, and Edibles.

ACS screens for 21 residual solvents using GCMS-HS, exceeding Louisiana’s residue detection requirements.

03

Pesticides

Matrix: Flower/Plants, Derivative Products, Edibles, and Beverages

ACS Laboratory screens for 66 pesticides using LC-MS/MS and GC-MS, meeting and exceeding Louisiana’s safety testing requirements.

04

Heavy Metals

Matrix: Flower/Plants, Derivative Products, Edibles, and Beverages

ACS Laboratory analyzes arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury (4 analytes) via ICP-MS to confirm concentrations below Louisiana’s heavy metal action limits.

05

Pathogenic Microbiology & Microbiology (qPCR)

Matrix: Flower/Plants, Derivative Products, Edibles, and Beverages

ACS Laboratory screens hemp samples for Aspergillus species, Salmonella, and E. coli using Microarray SAE technology. It uses quantitative PCR to detect and measure total yeast and mold, verifying microbial levels are below Louisiana action limits.

What do Louisiana’s latest hemp rule updates mean for brands and testing?

Beginning January 1, 2025, Louisiana’s new hemp law (Act 752) introduces tighter controls on THC potency, packaging, and retail sales. Each serving of a consumable hemp product can contain no more than 5 mg of total THC, and packages are limited to 40 mg in total. Only consumers aged 21 and older may purchase these products.

For hemp brands, this means updated product formulations, relabeled COAs reflecting total THC, and continued compliance with the state’s required five-panel safety testing (cannabinoids, pesticides, solvents, heavy metals, and microbials).
